Graz is a medium sized city in Austria, with a population of about 270,000 inhabitants. Although there is an extensive public transportation network in the city, a great deal of congestion is caused in part by city logistics freight operations.
The objective of the pilot is to expand the usage of E-cargo bikes to new areas of the city, to reduce the use of commercial vehicles, and to prepare a logistics hub near the city centre for better operation of the service.
The city aims to involve all the relevant stakeholders in the pilot; they will collaborate in evaluating the current situation, structuring the new service, identifying the hub structure and the necessary legislative changes required, and developing the new business models for operating the new service to reduce congestion and improve both the environment and the quality of life. The partners in the project are the City of Graz and BIM consulting.
